SPECS on the book Illusions

I chose this book, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, because it’s by the same author as the last book I read, Richard Bach. I like his writing because it talked about the earth and how things are or seem to be. This book is about someone who was just a pilot then he met a friend and his whole life changed. This work is valuable because it teaches you about the world in a way that seems like fantasy and seems to be happening inside the two main characters’ heads, but can still effect the world. The theme of this book is that everything is an illusion. It takes place in an older time, where people have huge farms and older planes.

I would explain this to a third grader by saying, “This book is about a world not too long ago, and in this world there is a person who flies people in his plane for money. But then one day a person came who taught him a new way of looking at life.” The time period of this book is written to be modern day but somehow also has the feeling of taking place at the time of Christ as well. This book made me feel happy and sad in some parts. It made me feel happy when Richard was making a friend and learning lessons from the messiah and it made me sad when the messiah died.

This book is more opinion than fact because not everyone believes in what it is saying. For example, not everyone believes in Christ. And that’s okay. And no, I cannot prove that Christ existed or is real but I think the author believes it. My mom recommended this book because she thought it was good and because she wishes that everyone can be like a messiah and make the world a better place.

This book is inspiring me to read another Richard Bach book, A Bridge Across Forever. I have not even opened it yet but it looks very good. In the book Illusions, the messiah is really nice to everyone and when I am nice to people it effects them and they can be kind back so we are all happy. When I am being nice it affects me because I feel that I am contributing to making the world a better place. And if everyone was nice, then how could there be war? It could make a big difference in world peace, I think.

In this book a messiah wants to teach his new friend how to be a messiah, too. And what I think is that some people will agree with him and try to be nice and change the world and others will think that it’s weird and not a good thing. If I could change an element in the book, I would make it so that the messiah does not die. Then I think that he would finish teaching the boy and maybe even other people. Even if the story was not true I still like to think that people can be nice and change the world with their kindness.

Michael's 2 Book review on Jonathan Livinston Seagull

Book Review of Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Significance: This work matters because it is teaching you to live to the fullest. And it is possible to be different and it is not a bad thing. Even if people don’t accept you for being different ignore them. I chose this piece because I wanted to keep reading about life and what it is about and how to change it. I also chose this piece because it speaks to you and wants you to be different, and that does not mean that you are weird.

Perspective: I would explain this to a 3rd grader by saying, if you want to be different and not be the same then go ahead and do your fullest. And be the one to stand out. And if people think you are weird, OH WELL. It is okay. And that is a good thing. The perspective of this of this author’s work is a seagull and he wants to fly but his tribe has banned him from flying and has no choice but to leave, so he can do what he does best, fly.

Evidence: A fact in this book is that Jonathan loves to fly and nothing will keep him from doing it and another fact is that he is different and to him that is okay. But to the tribe it is not. An opinion is that the tribe thinks it is bad to be different, another one is that they think people should be banned from a family because he/she is different. The difference between those two things are that a fact is something that is true and that is what it is and an opinion is someone’s belief and an opinion can change. For better or for worse. I support the opinion that it is okay to be different and that nothing horrible will come out of that. I support that because if everyone was the some our world would be a boring place. But if some people are different the world can be magical.

Connection: My opinion can affect people today. It might for some people and others not. It can affect people by making them want to change so they can be different and then that person can go on and change another person’s opinion. So then eventually everyone can be different in their own way! This connects to the last SPEC’S I did because it is about life and how the world acts and the good and bad things about our world. And that life can be different in so many ways. Even if people disagree with you.

Supposition: I think that if I changed this piece I would make it longer, so that it can tell about how Jonathan learns to be a master and travel super fast anywhere. I would also change it so that the whole tribe can see him be a master and that he actually learned something from all of that flying. And that nothing bad came out of it. A prediction I made from this book is that change is good and that is not bad and that you can be who you want to be even if it means you have to leave your friends behind because they won’t accept you the way you are.

Book review-The Illustrated Alchemist

This authors work is important because. He talks about the world and the soul of it and it teaches you to have a loving for the world and to cherish life. He also wants you to be able to know how the world work and what you should fulfill in life. He refers to this as a personal legend. The authors theme of the book is in the old times when there where Shepard’s and small villages. There are also no cars just carriages. Also the theme is that each person has a personal legend and some do it and some just dream about it. Also that the villages have very many wise men who help people.

In this book there is a tribal war going on and he explains that know body likes it that it should end. He also refers to the blood in the air and the smell of it. But two of the main characters have to go travel through the war and he explains and believes that you should not give up and just keep believing. He also thinks that if people have problems people should help them. I would explain the purpose of this book to a 3rd grader by saying, each individual has something he or she needs to accomplish even if they need to travel across the world just to find out it was where they started. Then I would say that you cant give up you need to keep going and don’t let anything get in your way. Even if you need to try something new.

The argument that the author is making is that you should enjoy the journey and find the happiness in you and not to just think about the end and the destination. I support this because in real life if you don’t live life and enjoy everyday you will miss out on the world and the happiness. I also agree with it because, if you only focused on the future you would have know idea what is going on around you.

I think that this book would inspire me to read more books about the world and about how it acts. I also think that it would make me to read about thing that will get accomplished and that journey it took them to get there. This book connects to my life because in the book a boy is trying to do the thing in life he is destined to do and to accomplish that he needs to travel through the desert and across the seas. And in my life I want to become an architect, but before I can just become one I need to go through school and study and learn math and graphic design.

I think that the world would be different if we did not each have something that we want to accomplish. For example since we do, people go to work and construction sites, court and travel all over. And if we did not do that everybody would just sit around doing nothing, just watching TV. And nothing in the world would get accomplished. I think that I would change some paragraphs and add some because in the book they keep having breaks where it is a good place to stop and then when you read on it skips 3 days. And I don’t think it should do that very much, it can get confusing.
